This is where my house is !
I was born in the Princess of Wales hospital and then moved up the hill where I have lived ever since !
I used to love walking to the Londis at the bottom of litchard hill and my favourite place in the world is the swings at the end of the road !

I used to drink in the Blue Room in The Squirrel sometimes when i was younger. My nan didn\'t like me going there because \"they sell drugs over the bar!\". I never saw any evidence of this, but then we didn\'t go in the \'Pink Room\'. Perhaps that was where the rampant drug action took place..?!

This has been the place that generations of young people have spent their teenage years, the trouble is that now young get asbo\'s for doing it!!
Nearby is a mural that young people did with the Art Department of BCBC, it has remained NOT vandalised because young people were involved from the start, the next generation of young people want to change it to something different now....

A place of light with just words by carmen

I grew up in LLuest in a miners cottage my Great Grandfather built. I lived next door to my grandparents for 16 years. My childhood was idyllic, playing in the forest, rolling down the fields of hay, roaming the mountains on your own with your dog, feeding the chickens, riding horses, building damns - everything a child wants. We were always up to no good, we changed Lluests sign with Pontyrhyl one day. We lived in the pub singing Bye Bye Miss American Pie on the juke box while drinking shandy and playing pool. We always played cards in the caravan - to keep out of the rain. We nearly ended up in the river when we tipped the balance with too many people. 20p went a long way then. You could leave your door unlocked. Your bike in the lane. I went there the other day nothing has changed except I can\'t name everyone in the street anymore. And my grandparents have gone - I have no family in the valley now. I haven\'t lived there for 18 years. Where has the time gone? The other day I thought to myself I haven\'t seen the Heron make its annual journey up the river for a very long time - that made me sad.

Mari Lwyd pays a visit to New Light 2008

A Christmas event designed to celebrate local life, people and culture has taken place in Bridgend town centre.

New Light 2008 saw huge images of local people and places from around the county borough digitally projected onto the recently restored architecture of the Graham Paul building in Dunraven Place.

The event began with a children’s lantern parade through the streets of the town led by the Coytrahen Mari Lwyd group.

Live music from the likes of Bridgend Male Voice Choir, singer-songwriter Phil James and local bands All For The Fall and Dog Day Life entertained the crowds alongside drama performed by Bridgend Youth Theatre and written by Voices Of Wales playwright Gary Owen.

New Light 2008 was funded by the Arts Council of Wales, Bridgend Community Council, Bridgend Festivals Committee and Bridgend County Borough Council.
